Lady Day and a Special Birthday

Today is the feast of the Annunciation! The celebration of the announcement of the Incarnation is not celebrated this year until after the Octave of Easter, because of Holy Week and the Octave. But happy Lady Day! The ring was destroyed today in the fires of Mount Doom for Tolkien knew that Lady Day was the New Year in some parts of medieval Europe because of its importance.

Personally, I think that BOTH St. Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary on March 19 and the Annunciation on March 25 should be holy days of obligation throughout the universal Church. Although the Church likes to make it easier and not harder regarding Mass attendence when there is good cause, I don't think it is too much to ask.

And HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Flannery O'Connor! And, for both these marvelous writers: Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine et lux perpetua luceat eis. Requiescant in pace.
