For Saturday, (yesterday) the Holy Father called for a universal day of fast and prayer for peace in Syria, a region of the world with apostolic ties to Christianity. Caesarea Philippi is in the Golan Heights; Our Lord gave Peter the keys to the Kingdom here, after Peter said that he loved Our Lord three times. St. Peter was the Patriarch of Antioch, and two Doctors of the Church come from Syria. Countless martyrs, confessors, and virgins come from Syria. A very thorough version can be found in the Litany of the Syrian Saints. Pray it. Perhaps someone's pastor could give it ecclesiastical approval for use in parish-wide prayer services.
Of course, there are still martyrs today, and especially in Syria, where the ancient Christian population is being driven out for fear of the errors of Mohammed and jihad that are being wrought upon the country.
Papal Music is a Youtube channel dedicated to the music of Papal liturgies. There are some good selections from today.
These prayers are not simply for the cessation of fighting. It is for interior conversion of all involved. But, any hope of keeping the United States and the other powers out will be by an act of God.
Keep up the prayers and works. And may the Church be guarded, governed, and united throughout the world.
