I found the propers for the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in the traditional form to be particularly moving today.
Allelúia, allelúia. ℣. Dulce lignum, dulces clavos, dúlcia ferenspóndera: quæ sola fuístidigna sustinére Regem cælórumet Dóminum. Allelúia.
Alleluia, allelula. ℣. Sweet the
wood, sweet the nails, sweet the
load that hangs thereon: for thou
alone, O holy Cross, wast worthy
to bear the King and Lord of Heaven. Alleluia.
This is the Alleluia for the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. This is quite lovely, with the repetition of "dulce" throughout the phrases. It's been completely removed in the Ordinary Form, replaced with the versicle from the Liguori Stations.
And the Offertory:
Prótege, Dómine, plebem tuam. per signum sanctæ Crucis ab insídiis inimicórum ómnium: ut tibi gratam exhibeámus servitútem, et ac ceptábile fiat sacrifícium nostrum. Allelúia.
By the sign of the holy Cross, protect Thy people, O Lord, from the snares of every foe: that we may exhibit to Thee a pleasing service, and our sacrifice may become acceptable. Alleluia.Oh how we need this protection from Our Lord!
